Murrumbidgee-Ginninderra Gorges National Park (Information Note 5)

The committee of the Ginninderra Falls Association was delighted to hear that its attempt to arrange a meeting with the Chief Minister, Katy Gallagher, to press the association’s case for a new national park centered on Ginninderra Falls has been successful. Three committee members, Anna Hyles, Chris Watson and Graeme Barrow, have been appointed to meet with Ms Gallagher on 29 May 2012. Members will be informed of the outcome as quickly as possible.

There was an excellent attendance of 70 or 80 or maybe more at the opening of a selection of paintings of Ginninderra Creek and Falls by Dirk Bouma on 9 March in CSIRO’s Discovery Centre. The exhibition was opened by Bryan Pratt, a member of the Ginninderra Falls Association, and was preceded by Bryan’s talk about the importance of the falls and the push for a national park to be declared in that area. The Association gained 14 new members who signed up at the exhibition.

The Murrumbidgee-Ginninderra Gorges National Park Community Group has decided to rename itself the Ginninderra Falls Association to simplify what many considered to be a cumbersome although descriptive name. However, this change does not diminish in any way the new Association's push for a new national park incorporating the falls and gorge on Ginninderra Creek and a section of the Murrumbidgee River.

The Murrumbidgee-Ginninderra Gorges National Park Community Group was delighted with the attendance at the public meeting on 31 October and with the high level of questions and discussion. We have met twice since then and are continuing to work towards our objective of a national park centred on Ginninderra Falls/Gorge and part of the Murrumbidgee River.
