Australia Day BBQ at the Belconnen Arts Centre
Thanks to the Belconnen Arts Centre who have invited us to run a BBQ at their Australia Day event. All proceeds from the BBQ will go to the Ginninderra Falls Association so this gives us a chance to meet and greet people, explain the proposal to create the Murrumbidgee - Ginninderra Gorges National Park and make some money on the side.

Public Meeting Brindabella Hills Winery, Sunday 23 March
Our first public meeting for the new year will be a change from our previous night-time talk-fests at the Belconnen Library. Mark your diaries now and I will give an update in the next newsletter as we finalize details.
Cross Border Working Party
I reported in a previous Newsletter that the NSW Parks and Wildlife Services have completed their survey for the proposed national park. Following the suggestion from NSW Department of Premier and Cabinet the next step is to convene a cross border working party. With this in mind, we have written to the NSW Minister for the Environment, the local NSW state member, the mayor of Yass Valley Council and the ACT Chief Minister.
We are also writing to all local members, Federal, State and Territory, and to local land holders to keep everyone up-to-date with this major development.
West Belconnen: Riverview
Most of you will also be aware of the West Belconnen development proposal from Riverview. See the Riverview Group West Belconnen and especially Welcome West Belconnen for details and to participate. Obviously there will be discussions about details such as appropriate buffer zones and appropriate administration of recreational areas (we are suggesting a national park) but there is no doubt that this proposal will be highly beneficial to our national park. For example, Riverview will improve access to the area and rehabilitate some 'eye-sores' on the way to the park such as the old land-fill site.
The close proximity of Canberra will be a major asset for the new park and urban development is not going to magically stop. Considering this proximity, our national park will always focus on the recreational, educational and tourism potential in this wonderful area. It is neither desirable nor warranted to 'lock-up' this area in any restrictive preservation zone which is effectively the case now with all this area in private ownership.
