Dear Mr Toms
Need for an Inter-governmental Cross Border Working Group to consider a Park at Ginninderra Falls and surrounds
The formation of this working group has become an urgent necessity with the prospect of urban subdivision closeby; please refer to the Draft West Belconnen Master Plan of Feb 2014 proposed by the Riverview Group Pty ltd (encl]. The formal rezoning application for the development which spills across the western border into NSW between the Murrumbidgee River and Ginninderra is imminent. The recent article with picture in the Canberra Times of May 16th 2014 gives an overview of the planning dilemma (incl).
We feel that you as the NSW Cross Border Commissioner are well placed to access the various cross border issues pertaining to the development. You are also the appropriate authority to form and manage a Cross Border Working Group to expedite the establishment of a Park centerd on the picturesque and biodiverse Ginninderra and Murrumbidgee Gorges(find attached detailed article of our Associations concept for a national Park in this region (National Parks Bulletin, March 2014 p8-10) as well as a "Summary of property assessment conducted by the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service at Ginninderra Falls, (forwarded to us by Ann King, Head NSW NP and WLS 12/11/13).
The possible composition of the Working Group would naturally include professional Park and conservation personnel from NSW, Yass Valley Council, ACT and Federal jurisdictions. We are currently informing all four governments of our request for your initiative and involvement.
Yours sincerely,
Dr. Chris Watson
