Autumn General Meeting
Don't forget our next public meeting at the Kippax Library on 5 March from 2PM to 4PM. Our guest speaker will be Dr Ken Hodgkinson talking about 'The West Belconnen development: Connecting nature inside & outside the urban boundary'.
Rosenberg's Monitor
A very interesting recent discovery is the presence of Rosenberg's Monitors near the Ginninderra Falls. Please see the article copied from the NSW's Office of Environment and Heritage website.
Penny Sharpe visits the Ginninderra Falls
The Hon Penny Sharpe MLC, NSW Shadow Minister for Planning, Shadow Minister for the Environment, and Shadow Minister for Heritage visited the Ginninderra Falls on 28 January. We organised the visit but it would not have been possible without the help of Riverview and John and Anna Hyles - Thanks.
As it turns out Ms Sharpe is a local. If you have any questions that you wish to raise with her, you can do so directly or contact us.
Cross Border Government Servicing Report
The Ginninderra Falls Committee is still very active in many committees and forums promoting a national park for the Murrumbidgee and Ginninderra Gorges. Following the NSW Gateway Determination, the Yass Valley Council will be preparing several reports outlining, amongst other matters, how the "funding and service delivery" is to happen.
As the NSW section contains the Ginninderra Falls managing services here will be more than just looking after yet another urban district. Darren Roso, Senior Ranger - ACT Parks and Conservation Service estimated 200 000 – 300 000 visitors per annum. Roads and parking for tourist buses and cars; a Visitors Centre; and safe walking tracks are just some of the special services that will need to be built and maintained.
Cheers,
Darryl Seto
