Please see the proposed submissions below. Background The Murrumbidgee and Ginninderra Gorges have great aesthetic, environmental and heritage value. There are several important Aboriginal sites and a world class ecology including vulnerable species such as the Rosenberg's Monitor. Parts of this area will be susceptible to dynamic bushfire propagation such as occurred in the 2017 Carwoola bushfire near Queanbeyan and the 2018 Tathra bushfire. Highly unsuitable for new houses. The proposal, as it currently exists, is to ‘develop’ everywhere possible and to put only the steep slopes into a conservation reserve. It will include restaurants, cafes, tourist accommodation and such right on the edge of the Ginninderra Gorge. These gorges are not just another urban park and the proposed urban sprawl will dramatically impact on any tourist appreciation of the park as well as its eventual degradation with loss of species. This development is dependent upon the provision of essential services by the ACT Government under a Cross-Border Agreement. Such an arrangement will, potentially, be a burden on ACT ratepayers into the future.
