Yass Valley Council

3 March 2014

David Rowe
General Manager
Yass Valley Council
PO Box 6

Dear David,

West Belconnen Development and
Cross-Border Committee

Thank you for your email of 7 February in response to the suggestion that a cross-border committee was required to tackle numerous issues connected with the West Belconnen development proposals put forward by the Riverview Group. No doubt many cross-border issues have been discussed with the Council and Mayor Rowena Abbey.

In a letter from the ACT Chief Minister, Katy Gallagher, dated 4 February I was pleased to learn that, unbeknown to me, the ACT Land Development Agency (LDA) already has such a cross-border committee in place and that the Yass Valley Council is represented on that committee. Are you the Yass Valley Council contact? The Association has contacted the LDA and suggested that there is a place for a stakeholder forum to promote community feedback and consultation with that committee. Such consultation has worked very well with Roads ACT over many years with respect to the Majura Parkway construction and it is hoped a similar mutually-beneficial arrangement can be made with the LDA with respect to West Belconnen.

The Association was also pleased to learn from the ACT Chief Minister that the NSW Government Department of Planning and Infrastructure was represented on the cross-border committee. The Association looks forward to working constructively with the Yass Valley Council and the NSW Government agency. As you are no doubt aware, the Ginninderra Falls Association seeks to restore permanent public access to the Ginninderra Falls and adjacent Murrumbidgee River gorges in NSW in the form of well-managed biodiverse and scenic parkland for the benefit of all regional communities. The Association will be particularly interested in seeing development and rezoning proposals when they are submitted for approval by the Yass Valley Council and NSW Government.

Yours sincerely,

Dr Chris Watson
President, Ginninderra Falls Association

Cc – Mayor Rowena Abbey
