The closing date for the Yass Valley Council public consultation has been extended to 5.00pm Friday 17 May so you have this week to put in your own submission. Numbers matter and it is critical for as many people as possible to submit their own objection to the development proposal even if the submission is simple and brief.
You can use the Yass Valley Council's Public Consultation online submission or you can use an online submission which we have added to our website. Please write something and tell all your friends.
The NSW Parkwood development includes a conservation reserve but the design of the new park has serious flaws. Areas that should be part of the reserve are marked for urban development. If the re-zoning goes ahead the park will forever be compromised as it will be so difficult for future generations to reverse this decision and return urban land back to an environmental reserve.

Ginninderra Falls
I'm a science communicator working at the ANU. I've spoken to some ecologists about the plans around Ginninderra Falls. From what they have told me, the area allocated for wildlife corridors to allow for native vegetation and local fauna is woefully inadequate to conserve and promote biodiversity.
I feel strongly that the design of the plan does not follow best-practice and needs a total rethink. Following reports of the global collapse of biodiversity last week, I think it's important that we look to conserve our natural heritage and ensure that the gifts we have in somewhere as unique as Australia are preserved for future generations.
Ginninderra Falls proposed Parkwood development
To the Yass Valley Council members,
I was horrified and sickened by the news of this proposed development, and as is the recent history of NSW developments, the NSW public only gets to hear about it at "the eleventh hour" in order to object and/or have a say. We are all stakeholders in our state and it's future direction environmentally, and as such, I feel the urgent need to object in the strongest terms.
The public has been robbed of any opportunity to enjoy this beautiful natural place as it has been closed to the public for about 20 years, and now this proposed development has virtually been signed-off without a reasonable and decent amount of time for adequate public consultation and response, along with proper, independant environmental consultation (not someone linked to the developer, a Councillor, or any associated company).
I know the NSW State Government passed a law that gave developers and Councils the ability to keep all proposals secret until the last minute, specifically so as to not allow the public a reasonable time to prepare a response. This is reprehensible and morally-unjust. There needs to be transparency in these matters, as would be expected of any Council following rules of good governance and accountability to its own ratepayers who, let's be blunt, pay the salaries of the Council.
It seems that the proposed development detrimentally alters the intrinsic value of such a beautiful and natural place, and the possibility of a small token reserve on-site falls far short of any real effort to protect anything of the original area, with its environmental and ecological values. This proposed development should be thrown out, in its present form, and the public, as stakeholders, be allowed a voice of appeal within a much longer and more reasonable length of time.
Yours sincerely,
Susan and John Pearce
