Thank you for your letter regarding funding for the proposed Murrumbidgee-Ginninderra Gorges National Park.
I note from the various newspaper items that the meeting was obviously well attended and quite successful. I commend you and your group members for taking the initiative toward identifying an additional community amenity.
Funding of such projects is always difficult. I understand that it is not usual for the Commonwealth to provide funds for the purchase of land for such projects, as parks of this nature are generally funded and managed at State or Territory level.
It would require the accord of the various ACT Legislative Assembly members to support a venture of this nature and relevant decisions to be made at that level. It is possible that the ACT government might then decide to seek a once off grant from the Commonwealth.
In such circumstances, I would be happy to lend my support as appropriate.
I hope this information will be of assistance in your pursuit of this interesting project.
